Navajo, adopted in 1996, is from the Goshute herd near Wendover, Utah.
Navajo grew up with Starbright and Acorn as his pals. He was always sweet and quieter than the others. He was a good follower. His blaze face and bright red body were easy to spot. Navajo also has a playful side, and at times irritating to the girls, as he rears, nips and chases around playing stallion. He seemed easy going and confident at first. However, his confidence was herd-based. When we began working him by himself and riding him alone, he became very anxious and insecure.
Navajo’s progress was encouraging and it really seemed like he had turned a corner. We sent him to Brighton Meadows, unfortunately a boy shot him with a paint ball gun and his trust in humans has been broken.
2009 Update:
Navajo's mustang tenacity and willingness to partner with the human has risen to the surface and he has carved out his own job description with Windhorse.
He has a special way working with children and M.E.E.T. the Mustangs workshops. He is our star at "hooking-on" with everyone in the program. He loves to "heart-hug" and thoroughly enjoys hanging out with the human herd.
He has a definite, positive impact on those with special needs. His big, liquid eyes help the most timid gain confidence. Cries of "We love you Navajo!" echo throughout Brighton Meadows when the children who have worked with him have to leave.
